CAREER COUNSELLING

Many students are lost as to which career path they should pursue. With all the potential career options these days they may not know which career path is best suited to them. This decision is not made easier by the fact that choosing a career essentially begins in high school, with subject choices. It can often be difficult for young people to make the decision as to which subjects they should choose in order for them to open up paths to certain careers.

Sometimes students may fell pressurized to choose certain subjects that may not align with their inherent personalities and preferences. Hence Career and occupation guidance is suggested for the student. at PMD Counselling our Industrial and Organizational psychology consulting sessions will aid in helping make the right career choices.

CAREER COUNSELLING

Career counselling involves a combination of psychometric assessments (often referred to as psychometric testing) and narrative techniques (talking during counselling). Although the psychometric assessments (or tests) provide valuable insights in a variety of areas, it is the narrative between the students and the counsellor that brings everything together for the students, helping them realise their dreams, aspirations, skills, abilities and strengths, and how these factors tie into their subject and career choices.

By combining narrative counselling with psychometric assessments (or psychometric testing), the Industrial psychology counsellor is able help students draw the maximum benefit from a career assessment. PMD Counselling’s Industrial and organizational counsellor is a qualified and experienced psychology counsellor, with accredited counseling skills, as well as degrees in Industrial and Organizational psychology. Add many years of dealing with people in relevant industries and personal experience in all areas and subjects that require consultation and counselling and psychology and you have help at hand in making career and life choices. HOW DO WE DO IT?

Duration of the sessions:

During the first session the aim is to cover all immediate issues within one to three Counselling hour (50 minutes) sessions, depending on the needs of the student or client.

During student career counselling we find out what life aspiration the student is leaning toward and choices are discussed.

Rates:

Each individual counselling hour consultation / counselling session (student career counselling or adult career counselling) will cost R850. We offer on-line sessions at R700. We suggest at least 4 counselling sessions after which written feedback will be available

Psychometric Testing

What is a Psychometric Test?

A psychometric test, more accurately termed a “psychometric assessment”, is a psychological test that measures an individual’s relevant strengths and weaknesses in order to determine employment suitability with reference to potential career paths. Through psychometric assessments students can gain an accurate idea of their behavioural/personality style, skills, knowledge and cognitive abilities. A Psychometric test or assessment allows a career counsellor to predict which career paths a student is most suited to, based on the objective data collected during this kind of career testing.
